The Soft and Fluffy Stuff – Soft Skills (By Rosanne Areington)

I love this quote by Zig Ziglar, “You don’t build a business – you build people – and then people build the business”.  Today more than ever, soft skills education is needed as it plays such a vital role in our personal growth. With technology being such a huge part of our life, we can see how impersonal society is getting and that manners seem to be a luxury and civility a rare commodity.

How on earth do we survive in our jobs on a daily basis then? We are constantly dealing with people and knowing how to get along with our fellow man, regardless of personality type, will make life easier and the workplace a little nicer.

We put a lot of emphasis on hard skills, studying hard to get that diploma or degree, but yet the soft and fluffy stuff – soft skills – aren’t given much thought. We take it for granted that we’ll just get along with our colleagues, our boss, friends and family and in the most part we do…or are we just surviving?

So what is this soft skills stuff?  Definition: personal attributes that enable someone to interact effectively and harmoniously with other people.

Here at CoreXalance, we want to give the soft and fluffy stuff a fair chance by giving our participants the opportunity to grow personally; the ability to understand their fellow man and the skills to cope with all the weird and wonderful personalities out there. We spend up to eight hours, sometimes more, at work every day and applying a few personal attributes (soft skills) to interact effectively and harmoniously with our boss and colleagues sounds like a win-win situation, not to mention the positive impact it will have on our family and friends.

Take a journey with us as we explore human nature; learn more about each other and how to cope in our stressful world. Generational Gap, Civility in the Workplace, Stress Management, Leadership Skills and Emotional Intelligence are just to mention a few exciting topics that we wish to tackle here at CoreXalance in 2015.
